SEASONAL DECOR - Blue Autumn

Blue is the color of the sky and sea and also my favourite in all tones, shades, hues and saturation. It is often associated with reflection and stability. It is the colour of trust, loyalty and wisdom and it appears that it really helps my creative thinking.

Welcome back to my blog, all you lovely people. As autumn is just round the corner, some of you may be looking to get some seasonal decor for the house.I always get excited to talk about my favourite things and today, I'm tying in my favourite season with photography, home decor and of course, the colour blue!

I'm sticking to blue for my Autumn palette

Having gone through the motions of changing my colour palette for different seasons, I've realised that I could only really live with yellow, orange or rusty red for just about a week. And I've been one of those who changed the curtains, cushion covers and throw blankets cause that's the "cheap way" of upgrading the look of a home, since you can just store them away in a box and then get them out every year as the season changes.

Well, having spent all the money on seasonal decor, I can tell you now, it was nowhere close to cheap and just to have these things on show for a week, let's face it, it's not really an investment. Especially not, when every year designers come out with a new colour (which don't get me wrong, I love looking at them) and the shops are staged to show you this perfect look, with all these "unique" items that you absolutely need, to make your house look cozy and perfect for the season, you are not going to want to get last years stuff out, because, well, it's so last year!

After I've realised, that blue is the colour that I keep going back to, I've decided to make it a challenge and stick to it, whatever the season. After all, this is what I enjoy doing most - take the things that I already have and make them work!

But is blue a colour for Autumn at all?

If you are like me, you think of Autumn as the season with all the wonderful rich warm colours. It's my favourite time of the year to go out for long walks in a nice knitted jumper and just admire the changing colour and the smell of the leaves! I love waking up to a misty morning and take my camera out (I have a thing for foggy, misty pictures)

I love getting home and make pumpkin or butternut squash soup with roasted pumpkin seeds (I have to admit, this has become my favourite thing to eat over the last year and I just make it all year round now, but still, it somehow tastes different when it matches the outdoors) and some crusty bread.

I always collect leaves 🍂 and make roses out of them and then create a centre piece for our dining table using a smaller pumpkin as a vase... this way I can enjoy a bit of colour and it's a fully biodegradable decor once I've had enough of it. I will type up some instructions for it, in case any of you is inspired by the below picture of the Leaf Rose:

So this year is going to be no different, I will still be enjoying my walks and hot soups, but I've decided to stick to my colour scheme - I've had to realise autumn is not all warm, it can be cold outside, and there are some really nice blue autumn pictures out there for inspiration. To name a few cooler colours that I like and happy to have in my autumn decor: Teal Green,Pine Green, Navy, Deep Ocean Teal, Deep Purple. Instead of buying more decor elements, I will change some of the artwork in the house. I've got some A4 size frames and I can just replace the artwork in them to display my watercolor attempts, that I feel could work in order to achieve the autumnal look. If you like prints, I would like to recommend tPC - premium quality prints at really great prices... and they are Yorkshire based :) You are welcome!

A couple of prints as opposed to new blankets and cushions... If you do actually need new throw blankets then by all means, go ahead and grab one (and I will be really jealous, cause I just love my comfy throws!). If I was to buy one now, this wool blanket would be the winner for me. I know, just because I'm not buying, I'm still allowed to look at these things 🤷‍♀️ ... especially when they are sooo pretty!

Embrace the colour scheme of your home

Am I saying don't be fooled in all of my posts? I probably do, but please, don't spend your hard-earned money on things that you don't need, just because they are trendy. If you would like a change, see if your mum or any of your friends would want to swap some pieces or do it PiriStyle and embrace you existing colour scheme, after all, you've picked that because that's the one you like; go out, enjoy the season, get inspired by nature. If you like blue like me, have a look at my Pinterest bard for ideas and as always, I'm only a message away if you need a creative idea to spice up the space!

Until next time,

Piri
